Fax in windows ME?

I'm running windows ME and would like to send faxes directly from my PC. I think i was able to do this with win95 and win98 but it seems that the ME version doesn't have this feature.
Anybody out there that might have an idea to solve this problem?

If you have a faxmodem, it WinME does have a fax program. If you can't find it under Accessories, Communications you may need to install it from the WinME CD using Windows Setup in Add/Remove Programs....

The fax program in Windows ME is called "QuickLink" and is made by Smith Micro Systems. In my experience, it is one of the worst programs ever written. It will make you sick while you attempt to get that program to work properly. Get another fax program or upgrade to XP.

No, QuickLink is not "the" fax program in ME.....it is a separate program that is often installed by major manufacturers as part of the bundle deal when you buy the computer.

ME may be the oddball. It may not have a fax program (even on the CD), but the one that is on the 98 CD should work...

I don't have my ME machine up and running so I can't check it, but I don't recall seeing a Fax program.

mjc is correct, Quick Link is NOT part of the OS, I have Quick Link III and it works quite well, it came as a supplementary application on a modem driver CD a while back. Check your driver CDs and other CDs in Windows Explorer, no telling what goodies may be lurking there that don't show up when installing drivers.

Other fax programs are available as well, Win Fax, Fax Talk (sucks from what I remember), and some of the shareware/freeware sites may have applications you can download. Be careful of spyware though...lots of it floating around on download sites.

I just booted up my WinME box and I have Quicklink III installed on it. I couldn't find it in Windows Setup, so maybe it did come with another program. I know there are lots of fax programs out there that get installed with other stuff....

Remember being annoyed that fax wasnt included with WinME (nor was MS Backup incidentally) and having to get a third party program (Cheyenne Bitware as I remember). Just remember that your modem must support the type of fax software that you install.

Well, I gues it won't work then...just gotta love 'em when the do stuff like that.
I guess it was an attempt to prove that ME was different from theother 9x versions.....:rolleyes:
