But after doing this and rebooting the system (during process of uninstalling) It fail to start. But Im sure my previous WIN98 SE are still there. I tried to re install again my WIN ME but the last part of the setup fail. It just hang up and nothing happened. I reboot the PC with start up disk and check for help menu. I followed all the instructions but still failing to boot. I just keep on resetting hoping it will load in Safe Mode. But its also getting hang. If I try to boot it on normal mode Im getting thid message "IFSHLP.SYS is missing" I have checked and verify thru dos and I found it on C:

Do you have startup disk with CD-ROM support?

If you do, you can boot to a floppy and re-install Win 98.

Have you tried the windows system file checker.

Start Run SFC and see if it can extarct the missing files....

Can you start in Safe Mode?

Try hitting the <f5> key right after power on, or the <f8> key it will bring up a menu...choose "safe mode"...and check in Device manager and see if there are any conflicts...especially for the display category.

Can you see the disk when you use a bootdisk?

After the bootdisk boots type c: at the a:\ prompt and then type dir...if it lists the contents of your drive the data is still there. If it doesn't then check the BIOS options and see if the IDE or drive configuration is set to autodetect.

Here (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q139/0/63.asp) is a page from the MSKB that may be of some help....

Before you reinstall windows, rename the windows directory.

Then install again.

Give that a try.

Thanks Classicsoftware this sounds good idea. I haven't tried that yet. I hope it will sort out my problem. But Im affraid maybe the old windows will activate while booting.. Do you think it will not conflict on OS wise.

Windows setup will look for c:\windows if it isn't there setup will create a new c:\windows and install to that directory it won't even look for the old dir that you renamed to c:\junk that dosen't work anymore or any thing that you want.

one thing to remember with a new windows you get a new registry and all your programs may not work properly may have to reinstall programs or replace the new user.dat and system.dat files with the old ones in DOS unless it was a registry problem that caused the problem in the first place

Dear Roel:

Rond 36 is 100% correct. If you use my solution, you will have to reinstall all of your programs. Even if you copy your registry files, there wil be missing DLL files.

1) Get a bootable disk with CD support. and boot from it.

2) Create a folder called source.

3) See if you have a Windows/options/cabs folder (if yes go to step 5)

4) If not, copy contents of WIN9X folder on CD to source folder

5) Copy the contents of the Windows/options/cabs folder to the source folder

6) Rename the Windows Folder to Oldwin, Junk,Fubar or other name as you see fit. If you can't rename it, delete it.

7) Go to the Source folder

8) Run Setup

A very big thanks Guys who is keep on helping me. Here is the latest regarding my problem

I re intalled WIN ME on different folder the installation was running smooth without any problem (unlike installing in my old windows folder keep on asking me some missing files). But the only things I noticed was it looks like safe mode. What I mean is the dispaly doesn't look nice some distortion in the graphics and text. It almost Identical in safe mode aside from the missing word Safemode on the desktop. I tried to boot it again un safe mode and re boot in normal mode but no luck. Do you think I need to re install my video card drivers. and one more thing is I can't see my CD Drive. Im not able to use it at all. is there anything I missed during setup process..

Pls help me again
