I know we have gone over this numerous times here but I have this guy that keeps insisting that no matter what you have to have it for your system to function. I
have read until I am blue in the face ,I have shut it off and turned it on and it does not seem to make any difference??
what is actually up with this I don't get it I guess, must be one of those days if i could get my hands on this guy I feel like draging him thru my screen and well you know.
So what say all? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

Yoda,

In the list of Startup items that I received from a Microsoft Tech as necessary...Systray was one of them. Whether you need it to function...DUH! I have read where when you close running programs before installing software some say only leave Explorer...as far as shut 'er down to see if the system will function... I haven't experimented. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hey Yoda,
Remember the saying, "Never have a battle of wits with an unarmed man." http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Some people you just can't reach, try talking to a 17 year old http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

If turning it off causes no problems for you, then....
So far Systray is the only thing I have not tried turning off. I feel if it is in that list of selections, then it should not be needed for proper function.
Enjoy

Displaying my ignorance here, but isn't Systray those little icons down by the clock? And if one turned it off, then one could not see those cute little puters talking to each other...or the ZA face blinking, etc..right? Don't know about necessary, but I sort of "like" seeing that stuff going on down there..reassuring that I am still online and not spinning my wheels uselessly in some kind of Twilight Zone.

Yup thats what it is Kay but i have this guy that just keeps on insisting that it is nessessary to have it running and frankly I used to believe that but I have since deleted and run my pc with no problems and reinstalled with no problems. And he still insists that it is nessessary for the function of the pc.Aparently he is a tech that can't get over the Idea that every thing in a book does not mean that it is so.I'm not getting down on him or any other techs becouse Lord knows I do not know hardly anything about pc's but i can repair a circiut board for a guidence control system if needed in a hurry thats what i was taught at red stone arsenal. but every thing you read in print about pc's can't be the exact truth.I guess I'm just blowing off steam here. Guee bassman hit it on the head about talking to a 17 year old He He. Thanks For Letting Me VENT.

And, there you go..."You do not need this portion of Windows to be open however removing by end tasking it may cause other programs that need this program to error. This program is very small and should not cause any issues with any other software on your computer."

So, here we have a small unimportant program who's real importance would be ultimately discovered in the manner in which you go about dissing it! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Aesop I'm not...there's some moral here though...

Yes, and if you end ALL the other tasks...making sure that there are none that need it, to do something like run defrag...do it, but by msconfig and then reboot. You can also leave unchecked and off if you have nothing using it when you do it...because if it isn't running then the programs that would want it won't be able to find it and then not try to use it...(hopefully)...I haven't had problems with leaving it off from startup...but if I shut it off while things were running then it gets a little crazy sometimes.
