Hey, has anybody heard of the big sales by almost all of the giant retail stores? For the sake of this website, let's focus on stores that carry computer's parts. Anyway, there's rumors that Bestbuy will have a lite-on cd-rw for $10 after rebates. I wonder how crowed it will be tomorrow.:D

My Dear Deagle.
As a former associate in one of those "big" retailers let me tell you a few things that I know for a fact! The huge sales at the break of dawn are called a "blitz". The items advertised you may find 10 of, in some cases 5 and then there is no more. I know this for a fact I have been there. The sales only last for 3 hours and once you are there, even tho what you came in for is gone, I'm sure sure sure you will buy something else. The Friday after Thanksgiving is called "Black Friday" in the retail business. Since I have not been in that business for over 5 years now you will not catch me within sight or driving distance of any mall in this country. I will not even leave my house and if you are smart you will not either. The only thing you will get is stress, not what you went for, a dented car, and an attitude you didn't have before you left your house.
Merry Christmas. Love ya darlin, LG:eek:

HAHAHA...:D Alright, thanx for the advice, so that's like a tactic they use to lure customers there huh?
How about the Christmas sales?;)

Last year I went to BestBuy the morning after Thanksgiving because they had a hard drive and stick of RAM for what was a great price at the time. I got there about 30 minutes before they opened figuring there would be 2 or 3 computer geeks like myself waiting to get in. The line actually went back to the rear of the parking lot and by the time they opened it just about ringed the parking lot. There were some news crews there and at several other BestBuys and other stores in the area. Once they let us in we had to weave our way through corridors they had created with ropes and merchandise. I did manage to get one of the hard drives/RAM before they ran out and I bought a couple of other things that were on sale for good prices that morning as well... then the fun really started! The check out line started in the back of the store and wound in and out of the aisles. It took longer to get out than it had to get in. Of course, now the hard drives are for sale for less than I paid that day and I have seen CDRWs for sale for $10 already...

One irony of that sale is that I talked to someone later who had gone in the afternoon and gotten the same deal. Apparently they had held some back and brought them out periodically during the day to keep people from getting too angry.

I will not be going this year no matter how good the deals are...

Why the heck am I hearing music by Steeley Dan in my mind after reading your post LadyGrey?!? You finally have made sense to the lyrics for me. Thanks!

:D :D Black Friday is just the livin end for sure. I survived 5 of them and have come to the conclusion that after those days I can take anything life can throw at me. One of those days we had over 500 people in the parking lot and when the doors opened it was like a stampede, people fell and were trampled, we had to stand back against the walls to keep from getting hurt. All for a so called "sale". Geesh, don't people have any sense?
The Christmas sales Deagle are generally pretty good. By that time most people have worn themselves out and things calm down a little. So those are the sales you can go to without fear of your life. The stores usually have quite a bit of the advertised item.
The whole deal with Black Friday is to work people up and make them think there is just never gonna be another sale like this again in all the rest of time! And it works! It's a mind game that retailers play.
Budfred, you remind me of the time that the first Nintendo64 came out. The associates from electronics actually had a sign that they held up for people to follow them. "Follow Me To The Nintendo Systems" They had ropes and things all over electronics too, little isles that took people past whatever they were pushing that day. I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing as I knew we only had 10 of those systems in the store and that was all there was.
I think I'll just sit here and do my shopping online like I have for the last year or two and keep what sanity I do have and keep my car in one piece and actually have a nice Christmas.
FTT, I'm just so glad I could help:p :D
LG;)

LadyGrey hit right on the nose~ I to have worked in retail and let me tell you it is horrible. Watching these normal people turn into crazed shoppers. Every year at a store called Farm and Fleet, we would have our annual Christmas Toy sale on Oct. 28, we would have this toy set up in the middle of the store, covered up so nobody could peek and then the day arrives. These crazy fools would be outside waiting when we all came to work. They would be jammed at the door lol waiting then the manager would unlock the door and run! These crazed shoppers would come flying in and all the shopping carts would be gone in 10 secs. It was fun just to watch em. I saw one lady steal a toy out of another ladies cart when she wasn't looking. Man....stay at home....safety and sanity first!:D

Geez, this just proves the point, I just heard about this poor woman (Orange City, Fl) who ended in the hospital while attempting to buy one of those Walmart 29.99 DVD players, she said that the crowd was so bad that she got knocked on the head, fell down and then shoppers walked on her...she ended blacking out, got a bad concussion...people didn't even stop to see if she was ok! They made fun of her! Tis The Season To Be Jolly! FA LA LA LA LA, FA LA LA LAAAAAAAAAAAA! (Oh btw, when the paramedics found her lying on the ground, trampled, unconscience, she was still holding the DVD Player!)

I heard about that too, gracious. A Wal-Mart spokesperson called the incident "unfortunate." Boy, that's an understatement...

pentachris~can you imagine! Yeah Walmart graciously :)said that they would put the DVD player on hold for her. Whatever!

Anyway...it is a sad commentary of what Christmas has become, we have truly lost the true meaning..

Well, it sounds like most of us stayed put and are alive to tell about it! I still have alot of friends at my old store and when I went grocery shopping on Monday I asked about Black Friday and man oh man, at 5:30 am the parking lot was packed and some fools were even hammering on the doors to get in. The darn store didn't even open till 7.
That poor lady, I read about that too and it's just what I was saying. If I was her I'd sue WalMart or try to at least. They should have given her a whole entertainment system at the very least. See that's the whole point tho, if she hadn't been lured and worked up into going out to the so called sale she wouldn't have gotten hurt.
I just stayed home quietly and worked on Donnie's computer some more and had a very nice day. It's just not worth it. I sure hope the rest of us are ok and no one in our bunch got hurt or into trouble.
LG;)

or into trouble

Aw C'monnnn! You gotta let us have SOME fun!

I went by 2 shopping centers on the way to work on Black Friday and both parking lots were full to capacity and spilling over to the roadways. At least twice as many vehicles as I have ever seen in them.

both parking lots were full to capacity

The one time of the year Im glad I live in a small(ish) town. We barely have enough population to fill a parking lot.:D

My wife can't live without shopping on black friday, so we went to the mall in the afternoon. I wouldn't have gone but our niece was in for the holiday and she wanted to go also. the crowds weren't bad by then, but our local paper had an article about a man who got in line at 8:00PM Thursday so he could be first into Wal Mart to get a 20" TV. He waited outside in the cold all night. Seems nuts to me.

Actually, on my christams list I only have 2 or 3 technology related ideas. An Athlon XP 2500+ Barton, a video camera that can record to memory sticks for video editing on my PC, and a gig of RAM. I really want a pair of ski's for christmas. I got real good and really like it. I can go to a ski slope in 45 minutes from KY:eek: :D .

And there's a way to skip the stress and false deals...... the Internet. I'll be doing most shopping or referring shoppers to websites.
