I'm running Win 98,
I recently installed a Ethernet card (got some msg, saying insert Win98 disc and do this...., I hate when that happens, anyway I didn't have it so I blew by it)

It seems to have installed OK.

I then tried installing my new DSL program, but get a error saying
"Dailup Network" program not istalled or corrupted.

Any ideas ?

I've tried to re install the ethernet program, but it won't let me, propably because it thinks its already there ... ?

More will be by here later,
You should go to device manager by right clicking My Computer, look for any red or yellow markers saying it found problems.
You probably will have to remove the device in Device Manager, then remove the card after shutting down.
Start the installation sequence on the card again, when the window says to load the driver you do that (usually on a floppy in the card package) and it may ask for your WIN98 disk for files to be added.

If I remove using the device manager, do I need to physically remove the
card ? and then what ? re insert it ?

Thanks

You shouldnt need to physically remove the card though you may want to make sure it is properly seated in its slot just in case.

After removing it from device manager reboot windows and once windows restarts it should detect the card and ask you to install drivers for it. If it asks for the windows disk you should have it handy next time.

If you installed a LAN NIC then two things will have been required. First off, Windows will need to install the correct drivers for the card. If these have been found and installed then the NIC will appear "normally" in Device Manager.

Networking components will also be required. eg Microsoft Netorking and File and Printer Shareing as well as an adapter and TCP/IP protocols and so on. Whenever you change any of these under Win98, the OS is likely to look for the Win98 installation files.
