I've just seen a very interesting article concerning the new version of Norton AV.
As some may know, Symantec (Norton) have now gone the way of Microshaft (even more annoying news about them in a minute) and insisted on product activation. However, the activation process has some problems, which means that virus updates may not occur - some users have attempted to update virus definitions only to be told that their product is not activated, or there has been a problem with activation. the only solution is to reinstall and reactivate. There is a limit to the number of times you can do this, and problems can occur.
the article is here:

now the microsoft bit - has anyone seen this? is it correct? has microshaft reduced the cost of XP and waived the activation for Thailand, whilst the rest of us pay through the nose?
microsoft sells XP cheap, eliminates activation for Thailand (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11058)

Something else I had heard about the latest norton (dont know if it was true or just rumour) was that it occasionally caused windows to lose its activation.(?)

I had also heard about the dropping of activation for thailand and there was a thread about it a while ago.

It also seems Symantec acknowledged the problem and released a patch yesterday to be downloaded from their site. I am running NAV 2004 for the past 20 days with about 3 or 4 restarts a day without any problem.
