View Full Version : Problem after using disk clean up!
Help! I have a Compaq computer that has windows 98. I used system disk clean up for the first time and afterward I tried to use my Eudora mail and it said it cannot locate C:/ sir I don't know what that is but Now my scan disk, clean up, and disk defragmentor will not work without it. How can I fix this?

Do you have an anti-virus emergency disk?
If so run that, if not there are several free AV programs available for download...try here (http://www.grisoft.com) for one called AVG.
Also what exactly did you clean up?
What OS and what cleaning program did you use?
Did it make a backup of what it cleaned?

mjc. Hi. I do have a macafee anti virus disk built in the computer when I got it. As to what I cleaned up....well I'm not exactly sure. It was the first time I used disk clean up. It was for Windows 98 and on a Compaq computer. It just told me what space would be available if I cleaned the files so I just pressed ok. I didn't make a back up before I cleaned. I only thought it would clean up my useless temp files not anything major. My Eudora won't even work now.

Hello Cheryl...welcome to the Forum!
I notice that you also posted the same problem in O/S Troubleshooting...this is not necessary and becomes confusing. It is best to keep things in one thread.
Pete if you read this would you get us on track?
The temporary files you thought you were deleting is an issue that you will want to address (or someone will address since you mentioned it) once your original problem is taken care of...

The double post explains why when I tried to post on the other thread, I got a topic closed message..totally baffled for a bit there.
I can't find anything on the "sir" part. Did find a Eudora help page here (http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/win/#search). Have you tried running the System File Checker? Start-Programs-Access-System Tools-System Information..under the Tools menu at top is a System File Checker. If it reports anything missing or corrupted, you will either need the 98 CD or have to find the file..maybe on the Net (we can probably help with that). Seems that maybe you should try troubleshooting the Eudora first though. When I run the 98 Disk Clean, it has a dialog box showing which folders are being cleaned out. Might ought to check yours when you get this problem fixed, and before using it again.
Hi everyone. I ran a virus scan and it turned out I had a bug. I repaired it and that seemed to fix everything. My computer's back to normal now. Thanks for all your help.
