... I have a rather interesting problem... my click buttons started working sporatically a few days ago, and I just noticed that they work only when I am moving the cursor around. i.e. if I leave the mouse stationary and try to click/ doubleclick, nothing happens, but I have no problems dragging around windows, using scrollbars, highlighting text, etc. I have no idea what's going on here... the mouse is USB, I've tried using different ports, I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, I would try to use the USB->PS2, but I can't find the adaptor, I've scanned for virii/ other malicious software. In other words, I'm stuck! Any help?

thanks in advance,
Dave

If you have another mouse to try, I would do that first.

What scans have you run?? If another mouse doesn't work, it may be worthwhile to run HijackThis and copy/paste the log here for examination. Do not fix anything until the experts look it over and make sure you actually install it so that you can recover from fixes if needed. Also, make sure you use the latest version....

i tried another mouse, but i could only get a hold of a ps2 mouse, not a USB one... it worked fine as far as i could tell. Another thing i noticed is that switching usb ports seems to temporarily solve the problem, but then it returns... i hope this isn't damaging my usb ports in any way. i think that's all there is to tell... i'll post again if i think of anything else

I am an apprentice in reading these logs and I only see a couple of things that are probably not needed, but don't look to be a likely cause of the problem. Wait until someone who is more expert to come along though. You will need to install HijackThis if you want to be able to reverse any changes suggested, it is only in a temp file now....

If it unlikely that you are damaging your USB ports, but you may need to Remove your USB drivers in Device Manager and let Windoze reinstall them on reboot to see if that fixes the problem. I would Remove them from Safe Mode....

If you have no problems with a P/S2 mouse then it is possibley the USB mouse itself that has the problem.

hey guys, i just got a hold of another mouse very similar to mine, and it works fine. so it was the mouse... pretty interesting symptoms for a simple hardware problem. hopefully best buy will let me return it with no reciept/packaging! thanks a lot for your help,
