I just noticed that sometime in the past day or so we hit the 12,000 member mark. WOW...I remember hitting 500...what a long, strange trip it's been, to quote a musical group that many of our members may know as "old fogies"...(Yeah, I remember their first hit too...)

Truckin', got my chips cashed in...

The forums have certainly come a long way in the past 3 years, from a good idea by our fearless leader just struggling to get things up and running, to one of the best and most well respected tech support forums on the Internet. And many of our original crew are still hanging out here daily too.

12,000 members and still only two moderators handling things - basically without any problems - except for the few threads that have to be moved now and then. That's not a bad record at all if you ask me, most forums I know of have had a dozen moderators by the time they hit 5,000 members...and many still don't have the great atmosphere we have here.

I haven't said so in quite a while, but I think the good folks here have done an excellent job of making the PC Guide Discussion Forums the best anywhere. Without the assistance, loyalty and perseverance of a number of people, especially that original few who believed in the forums and what Charles and I wanted them to be, none of it would have ever been possible.

Thanks a million to all the good people who liked what they saw and stuck around to help it grow, the folks who believed it was possible to have a friendly, helpful tech forum site and still be professional and have a sense of humor at the same time. We've dome it, in spite of the very good chance it would turn out to be no different than any other tech support forums.

Now who took my caffiene delivery device???? :D

Thanks a lot folks, I appreciate the kind comments. Won't be long before I'll forget them before I'm through reading though...

I can't remember how I know which "number" member I am?

And while looking for something like the above, I realized a whole lot of new numbers were just joining, and not posting. In many cases, it looked like they were just checking out their screen name, and the member list shows 0 forever. Hate to bust your bubble, but aren't we less than 1000 when you get rid of zero post members?

Kay,
Some people have the gift of 'gab' and some don't I guess

Glad to see you posting again. Remmember This thread? (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17675&highlight=mountain)

You'll always be ' up there' to me and I hope to be able someday to say hello to you 'up there' as well.

Meanwhile, keep gabbin'!!! :p

Yes, and we should perhaps be glad.
Imagine a few hundred people participating and replying in some thread ?
The confusion would be overwhelming, and such a thread might often just go on and on, with a strong tendenecy to aside forays, and off-topic blabbering. I think it would start to resemble IRC, in short.
I think practically there is a limit somewhere to the number of people able to discuss in one thread at the same time.
Maybe most of those never posting are reading anyway, and that might be all one can hope for.

I could quite easily take that personally...lol..but am not guilty this time. I agree that quality is better than quantity, and I do believe we have that here most of the time. Sometimes we will get a bunch of new people who hang out here for awhile, but if they're not really interested, and don't learn from others..they tend to drift off, and the "quality" is back. Viva the few!

Well, ain't we just snazzy with our 12,000 members! I've known for a long long time now that this was the one and only place to come if you wanted real help and to be treated with respect and dignity all at the same time! Charles and Pete and Mjc all do such a wonderful job and we have so much fun here as well as learn. Please don't ever stop or who in the world will get me out of the messes I get into with computers! :)

Pete, Happy Happy belated Birthday!:D I'm sorry I missed it! Hope you had a great day!

LG;)

Been busier than all get out lately, so haven't had much time to post or peruse the forum.

Happy Belated BDay to ya, Pete! And I suppose you would worry about me, if I didn't ask if you got some HAIR for your birthday? :D :D :D :D

Wow, I still remember when I first came to the forums and then decided to stick around. It was one of my better decisions. :)

Cheers to All!

I suppose you mean the few who are actually posting. You may be right. Quality comes befoe quantity, in any case it is more desirable in a discussion board with relatively high standards.
But still, it could be more lively here sometimes. What I wrote in my other post was certainly not meant to rationalize keeping the number of respondents low.

Thanks to Charles and the moderators for making this an excellent discussion forum. There are many forums that a person can get on and I was using about four of them at one time. Now, I use only this one because I think it's the best. Best wishes to everyone for a prosperous and peaceful year in 2004.
