PC is a DELL 733mhz; running WINXP HOme It came with NAV which the owner never updated. I removed Nortons and installed AVG and Spybot. Spybot removed 1328 items! If you attempt to run regedit or use CTRL ALT DEL to end a program, the box flashes on then off before you can do anything. A box does come up saying there is a trojan horse present (not an AVG warning) but gives no info as how to get rid of it. Before I head over there again is there a trojan horse download that I could run? How do I clean up this pc?
I would recommend Ad-Aware to remove any nasties. Hijack-This.. there are links all around this forum, will record lots of things from your PC which the boffins on this site can analyse & tell you what to delete.
If you are having trouble running things like regedit, try doing them in safe mode?
Any of the ATs on the list I made up would work...they are either free or come with at least a trial period (about 30 days).
Asquared is free one....

Thanks for the help I saved the page for later downloading. This family has bigger problems now; "how to really get help from Dell" After two hours on the telephone with their dsl provider, I was told the problem was in the computer, erratic connections. They won't have to worry about downloading and nasties for awhile.;)
