When I click on my OE icon on desktop I get this message "Outlook express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded".
I recently re-installed win 98 se. I also noticed that IE and OE are not listed in the add/remove software. I thought I may be able to repair it from there.
I dont want to re-install outlook express, I need to retrieve some recent emails.
Thanks, Tom.

Go to start> find> Files and folders. Type in *.dbx
This will show a list of you inbox outbox etc. Save whichever ones you want onto cd-r's or floppies if they will fit. Even another partition if you have one available. This will save them while you get the problems straightened out.
You will not be able to read it but it will be able to be read on any machine with OE installed.
Once you have your OE fixed you can use the import feature to retrieve and read the files.
Address book is .wab so search for *.wab if you need those also.
This is only an idea, wait for more experienced opinions
Then but not before someone else voices in support or caution, try going to Program Files> Outloook Express and using the installer setup50exe to reinstall OE atop the other

Looks like the reinstallation of Win98 would have reinstalled IE/OE 4 over a previous upgraded version 5 - without removing the original first. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=232480
