When I use IE to view sites with Java, I get a message telling me that I do not have Java Virtual machine. What do I have to do to install the MSJVM for IE?

I am able to use Java sites with Netscape but not with IE, how can I do this?

I prefer the Java latest editions from Sun:here (http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_manual.jsp)

It will work with IE.

Since you have java working with netscape have a look at control panel and open the java plug in. Then check the browser tab and enable the box for IE.

The three options for installing a VM are at http://www.n6hb.org/s-a/JAVA-ts.htm and sun's java should do just fine.

I remember in my previous Windows OS versions namely Win98 and Win2K when you go into the control panel you saw an applet for Java Virtual Machine. However in WinXP I cannot see it. Where in the control panel is the JVM applet for WinXP? As Paul has said if it works for my Netscape then I must have it?

Even though I'm using the Java for Non-US English, I have an entry in Control Panel called "Java_Plug-in_1.3.1._08" and entry in AddRemove Programs called "Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_08"

Are you sure you do have Java installed for Netscape? - I think it comes as part of the installation (but maybe that is only an option you can choose to install).

When I visit a website that has Java content using Netscape a little red applet opens in the shape of a steaming hot coffee as seen on the Sun web site. If I double click on the applet it says:

Java Console <title>

Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.1_02
Using JRE version 1.4.1_02 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = C:\Documents and Settings\msa969

Proxy Configuration: Browser Proxy Configuration ...

etc.

Yes it came with the installation since I did not download it.

Now when I visit the same website with Java content using IE I got a diologue box with the heading:

Install on demand (other)
To display this page correctly, you need to download and install the following components:

Java Virtual Machine

[Download] [Cancel]

Now I click on the download button

Then it whisks me to Mircrosft page informing me I do not have the JVM but I cannot see any download instructions to install it.

1. TURN OFF INSTALL ON DEMAND!!!!!!!

2. Go to the Sun site and download and install the Java package...
