After installing IE5 from an ISP's CD (not the ISP I use, just one that was lying around handy) I found that it installed something on my desktop that falls into the same category as 'my computer' - a " system folder". How can I safely delete this - when I click it it will try and redirect me to this particular ISP and change my DUN settings.
And does anyone know how to change the text that appears at the top of the IE window -Microsoft InternetExplore provided by Tiscali (the ISP)
Cheers

Your best bet may be to use IEradicator to clear if off of your system and download and install IE6. Apparently IE6 contains security updates that are pretty essential, so it is a good idea to use it, especially if you use IE as your browser....

Sorry I should have given the full story. It is actually a friend's pc P11 233 running W95, which I offered to rebuild for him. He did have a legal copy of W98SE also, but I just could not get a compatible set of chipset video drivers, so I gave up and reinstalled W95. Then I found to my amusement that I couldn't install IE6 on W95....

Then my suggestion would be similar, get rid of it and install another copy of IE that didn't have the pesky ISP trash in it.... Here is one version that indicates it has been "enhanced". If you get it, run security scans on it before and after installing. There are other copies out there, but I don't have the links handy for where to find them, hopefully someone else here will....

There's probably little wrong with the actual version of IE other than the annoyance of "provided by ... etc" which can be easily changed using a registry edit if you are up to that - but be sure you know what you are doing in the registry.
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and then find the key "Window Title" on the right hand side. Right click on Window Title, choose modify and enter any text line that takes your fancy.
The pointing to Tiscali's DUN and or webpage is a separate issue. They may use their own customised connection manager - check in add/remove programs and if its there uninstall it.
Go into DUN and reset the default to the previous one used and delete any created by Tiscali.
Finally go into IE Tools InternetOptions and re-customise home page, etc on the General Tab and any other settings on the other tabs.
