I have an old Excel spreadsheet, I beleive made with Excel 97, possibly 95 (last modified date 1998), that I recovered from an old 486 my family used to use. it's password protected, and since I've been tasked with recovering all the data from the drive, and no one knows the password, my family expects me to magically be able to strip the data from the file. anyone know of a good utility to let me find out what the password is (or just make the password go away) on an old Excel file? is there a method with hex editing? I'm confortable with winhex, so if there's a way, I can follow directions...

Unfortunately the viewer still asks for the password, and the peeker only works if you have a password in the slot, but it's been masked (you know, those balls or stars to keep people from seeing your password.) I don't know the password, and my aunt (who originally wrote the darn thing) has forgotten what she used as the password. so the peeker does not work. anyone else have any ideas?
