Hi Everyone,

I am actually new to this forum and am going through my A+ studies right now but this is the forum I have been looking for, for a while now. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I am studying with a friend's broken computer. The mission is to get it up and running and to add some upgrades to his system. I think it's a great way to study and learn. I think and hope this forum is going to teach me alot as well as the certification forums.

There is no power at all coming from the supply. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/confused.gif Any ideas what the problem could be? I have not had any straight answers to this question so I have not attempted anything yet. Nobody seemed to want to answer this question in other forums or they just didn't know. However, it wasn't a troubleshooting forum.

Any thoughts on this subject are greatly appreciated.

I will be all over this forum. And as my knowledge gets better I will have alot of answers as well. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

thanks

Kevin

p.s. Should the PS operate if dis-connected from the motherboard but still connected to one of the drives. The reason I ask is one person from another forum said to unhook all cables except for the floppy and see if the fan spins. I do not think this sounds right

Hope everyone is well during these trying times

I have found on my sysyem the power supply has to be connected to the motherboard. Take multimeter and check for voltage at the connectors. If no voltage power supply has a fuse in it check that fuse {take it out first if it will come out} for continuty. While you got the case off check for burnt wires, resistors, and capacitors for bad spots. Do voltage check of power coming in. If all else fails get new power supply. It would be hard to explain checking voltage on the motherboard. Best of luck and one day I will be a pro too, Thanks Andy

Sounds like a good canidate for a PS replacement to me...it doesn't have to be a 450W monster, just known good...

thanks for the help.

I was thinking of disconnecting my 250 ATX watt power supply from my system temporarily and testing it on my buddies system to see if it will turn. I will just connect to the motherboard and 1 of the drives. I am assuming I can do this with no problems. Any thoughts?

If it does not work it is probably the motherboard, right??

thanks

Kevin
