Unable to connect to the internet

I am having some problem with accessing the website on a Win98 PC. The PC is connected to the netowrk as I am able to access the server via network neighbourhood.

I have been on the Internet Connection Wizard and did the "usual stuff" so it sets up to the LAN, however I am unable to connect to the Internet.

On the status bar for IE after typing an URL I get:
Detecting Proxy Setting ...
and after a while get an error page on IE saying it cannot open the page and at the bottom of the page: Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer.

When I did the Internet Connection Wizard the third time and went into IE
and typed another URL on the status bar this time I get:
Connecting to 192.168.0.1 ...
and again receive the same error message.

How is the network setup? Do you have a proxy server?

Go to

Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections --> Lan Settings

and try unchecking everything.

thanks it works via IE, amazingly though the GUI interface is exactly the same as "Internet Connection Wizard" and I should followed the same "PROMPT"
