The interesting thing is, as some here will probably know, that a computer is needed to calculate them, as they are generated by mathematical formulas - fractals.
That's right ; numbers are at the origin of these pictures which it is difficult not to classify as art. What is special about them is that they display patterns with are repeated when zooming in on some part of the picture, but not in an exactly identical way. This way quasi-unlimited diversity is obtained.
Some of these pictures take days or weeks to be generated.

I recall a Fractal Generating program making the shareware/ public domain rounds a few years ago.
All you did was add your own numbers to the algorithms and watch it grow :)

It should be still available somewhere

There are several, they should be easy to find with a search engine.
One is to be found at one of the links provided above, another one is FractInt. Again, a search will lead you immediately to its homepage.
I have already experimented a little with it, and I can tell you, it's fascinating. You can go on and on if you don't watch it ! :cool:
