Perhaps a little more information would help...

Was the system working and then suddenly one day you booted and received the message? Are you running Antivirus of some sort? Added any new devices or software lately? Or, deleted any programs recently?

Hi Embassy, Welcome to the Forum.

Have a look at this Article (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q192/8/44.asp?FR=1). It sounds like your problem. If not, post back some additional specs, such as any changes you have made to your system.

ive ran scandisk and it found and repaired bad sectors. im unable to run a thorough scan, it either locks up in the middle of scan or gives the msg out of memory?

I would go to the drive manufacturer's website and download the diagnostic software for your drive...

Has the drive been making any unusual noises?

With bad sectors I would lean towards a dead or dying drive....

Have you tried running Scandisk from the DOS promt? You could also try and re-insert a backup of the registry to see if it is a corrupt registry (also from DOS) and to check and see if you can write to the disk outside of windows

thanks guys, i fixed the problem... i smashed the hdd on the ground a couple of times and that seemed to work just fine. nah just kidding. my resolution is a new drive. i couldnt run scandisk from dos either. i tried running it with virtual memory turned off.
