Using Search Engine Closes IE

An old friend of mine just came back from college for a few weeks and told me that whenever she goes to a search engine like www.google.com or www.yahoo.com her IE window just closes. No error message no nothing, just closes like someone X'd out the window.

She said she did a full virus scan with norton and that she keeps her virus definitions up to date (school makes her keep all anti-virus/firewall stuff up to date to use their network).

I couln't think of what would cause that so i just told her to download opera (cause we all know it's better anyway :D) and try the search engine and get back to me. Any ideas?

I would try spyware scans, either Adaware or Spybot, then reboot.
Then run HiJack This and post results to have analyzed here by experts. Don't delete in HJT until experts look at the results please.

Does she have a pop-up blocker? I used to run No Ads and once added a frequently used page to the block list. Every time I hit that site, IE would close. Took me a while to figure it out.
