I found something interesting.

Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack 4.0" available for download.

The Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack gives you 128-bit encryption, the highest level of protection possible for all your Internet communications, including credit card use and financial transactions.

It's a 230 kB file and supported operating systems are Win 95 and NT.
Win 98 apparently isn't even supported.
I think not many of you knew about this encryption commodity ; I never heard about it anywhere.

Not sure what OS or version of IE you are using, but If you go to a secure site, I think you will find that hovering your mouse over the little "padlock" in the lower right of the page will show "SSL Secured (128 bit)"
Mine has been that way forever.
(Unless of course, I've misunderstood your point). ;)

I also find that your link is "unavailable".

Internet Explorer 5.5 includes 128-bit encryption. If you already have Internet Explorer 5.5 installed, you do not need to upgrade your browser with the Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack. So,If you are running an earlier version of Internet Explorer without 128-bit encryption you may need it.If you are running Windows 2000, installing Internet Explorer 5.5 will not change the current level of encryption on your computer, you will need to install the Windows 2000 High Encryption Pack.
Check here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/128bit/default.asp)

Jeeza,

I remember downloading that a few years ago on a WIN 98 first edition box (my first PC).
That was big stuff back then, shortly afterwards IE 5.0 and 5.01 came out.
Now I don't use IE at all and feel much better.

Here it is working. You have to copy/paste into the addressbar and be careful. If you copy the link straight from my other post your browser will do something weird - append something of its own - so you have to erase this and then paste at the end the second line part of the link.
But here you can see the URL in its entirety.
I didn't realize that SSL might have replaced this commodity after Win 95... :o but SSL only works with websites with SHTML I believe.
Doesn't this Win 95 encryption commodity encrypt all your browser connections ?

No, only connections to secure servers (identifiable by https:// in your address bar as opposed to just http://, and by the padlock in your status bar).
