hi,
first before my question, here is an example to help let you know what i am talking about.

and entered
into this ____________ day of ____________________________, 20____, by and between
__________________________________________________ ________, whose address is
______________________________________________ (hereinafter referred to as
"Lessor") and __________________________________________________ ________ (hereinafter referred to
as "Lessee").

now, to the question,
how can i fill in the lines with letters, without the lines disappearing? or, how can i put the line back after i am done typing over them? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks DALE

A simple way is to highlight the text that you type in and then choose to underline it.

If you press Insert before beginning to type the lines will be overtyped and not lose their positions. Pressing Insert again turns the overtyping off. Using a fixed width font for both the underlying and the overtyping (such as sans serif or courier) would keep the width of each character completely constant.

You can also create a form using the Form toolbar that will allow you to type in fields and avoid disrupting the format. However, I haven't used it to put in lines and then type on those lines, so I am not sure if that is possible.

Yet another approach would be to use Excel to set up the layout of your document and then use a bottom border (instead of an undeline font setting) for the cells that would otherwise contain the "underlining". Once set up you would have a very stable template for entering in the variables.
