Sorry about putting the email address on here. Won't happen again.
I don't remember the reply name, but I did get a message of "create more HD space before it can install the burner software". I began to do this but it was responding very slow to my mouse clicks and the next thing I know, I was rebootingin win before I got a chance to delete more files. We bought the burner to be able to copy desired files to CDs to free up space on the HD to speed it up and after about 6 hours tonight. I messed everything up it seems. I tryed a ME boot disk and really couldn't get anything on it's help menu to work for me. Safe mode still took me to a pause at that welcome screen and will sit like that for hours. I'm stumped. We really would like to recover to save some school essay text files. The girls are smoking mad at me now.

First thing to do is to see if the drive is dead. Who's the manufacturer? Go to their website and DL the diagnostics software.

Do you have access to another computer? You could try taking out the HDD, put the jumper on "slave", then put it in another computer and try to read it from there.
