This is my first time trying to build a computer and it's not going very well. I have a Asus P4T533-C Motherboard and am trying to install a Pentium 4 2.66Ghz. After receiving a dead processor and not being able to return it (damn websites:mad: ), I decided to finish. I installed everything according to the instructions. When I powered it on, I get no signal from the computer to the moniter. I've checked NUMEROUS times to make sure all the connections from the MoBo to the GeForce4 Ti4200 are correctly fit. I went through the flow charts on the sticky post and it says my MoBo is faulty. This can't be considering I bought it from NewEgg.com and it arrived this morning! Also, according to the charts, it says that there is no POST occuring. Which is true, because I get no beeps whatsoever and with no display, this is the only evidence I have. I just can't seem to figure out why the damn thing won't boot at all! There is just a black screen, with text indicating that there is no signal coming from the computer. The power supply works, all the fans and peripherals run, but it just won't go to any type of boot screen. ANY help is GREATLY needed! I'm never gonna try to build another computer after all this hassle!:(

Jumpers shouldn't really be the problem because I have JumperFree Mode set. This supposidly means that I don't have to mess with any of the other jumpers?

Just me again, comp has Award Bios. I've reseated processor, switched back to a stock fan, and checked the connections. In a desperate attempt to find the bug, I finally just reset the CMOS (even though I never even got the Bios to appear.) For some strange reason I think reseting the CMOS may have gotten the POST to work, now I get a long beep which signals that I have bad RDRAM memory. I have no idea if that will fix the problem but I'm going to try and pick up a stick or two to figure it out.

You should print out these flowcharts for use
www.erniek.eclipse.co.uk/downloads/sylvanderdiags.zip
[you may have them already]

When you had no beeps whatever, that meant the POST was not completing and therefore the video card was not being enabled and the text coming up on your monitor was being generated internally by the monitor to warn you that it was not receiving any input [probably because of no output from the video card due to no POST].
1) At that point you should have disconnected all peripherals and system adaptor cards except video/monitor & keyboard.

Resetting the CMOS has not produced a successful completion of the POST; it has resulted in a memory error.
I guess the CMOS's hardware configuration settings had been matched to the processor and memory fitted to the board and the default settings are wrong for something fitted [the memory?].
I'm not sure how to recover from that.
Try stripping back the hardware anyway and see if it helps.
If you manage to get the POST to complete, go straight into the BIOS Setup and try to make certain that the [configuration] settings are correct for the hardware fitted.
Unfortunately, that requires detailed knowledge of what the settings should be.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will come along to help.

So are you saying that I may have screwed my computer even more? Well, I just got the MoBo and Proc in the mail today at 10AM and decided to build it right away. I had never booted it before so the MoBo couldn't set itself to my hardware already? Anyhow, I'm gonna buy some more RDRAM and see if maybe that will fix the problem. Any more suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Edit: I did strip down to only Proc, MoBo, Video, and Keyboard after I failed the first time.

You don't need any more memory.

Try one stick of memory at a time.

RDRAM has to be installed in Pairs though..

Alright people, at last, I am AnIdiot. I had the RDRAM sticks placed incorrectly. The beeps alerted to me that something had to be wrong with the memory and, upon reading further into the manual, found that the memory configuration is different than other MoBos. Kinda complicated though, but it works!!!

;) Congratulation!! Sounds like you are not AnIdiot, but rather, new to building computers. Don't let this set you back too bad, just a simple mistake.

If all else fails, read the manual.
