start up

I am having a problem when booting up my computer if I dont do anything computer hangs on windows98 screen
as i watch booting process i see mem ok hard disk cdrom and then updateing escd successful cd rom failure
the computer will start up in safe mode only
i need some advice

Ummmmm, if you are seeing that message on your screen your CDROM drive has most likely slipped this mortal coil...or at least has a serious problem, check the cables first but I think that maybe it has died. When in safe mode you can go to device manager and then find the CD drive and remove it...if Windows redetects it on rebooting and it works then it was just a driver problem, but if it doesn't get redetected then it most likely time to go shopping
