Is it only worth taking the A+ hardware exam if you are planning to take the other A+ courses for eventual certification? I have taken the A+ hardware class for work, but am not planning on taking any other A+ classes. I would take the test if it would look good on future resumes but I'm not sure if one test would mean anything on its own.

Last I checked, it only takes two exams to receive the certification.....hardware and software. So, if you've already invested time on courses, why not invest a little money on the actual certification? That is what would look best on your resume and would definitely lead to a higher salary.
There is a maximum length of time allowed between the two exams, however, so be sure to check out the CompTIA website for all necessary details and requirements.

Yeah, it would look much better to have "A+ Certified" rather than just "passed the A+ hardware exam". An employer may take that to mean that you didn’t feel confident on the software test, or even that you didn’t pass the s/ware test.
I’d say ether take both tests and get certified, or just list your skills and experience on your resume. If you can fork out the $290 (or whatever it is in your area), definitely get certified.
