Hi to everybody,
I have been a long time lurker and i have always found an answer to my question just by reading the threads here. This place is the best, in my opinion anyway.I know i could probably find an answer to this but i think it's time for a little interaction from my part.
So here it is.A client of mine as started receiving multiple copies (70 to 100)of different emails whithin outlook express 6.I have run different spyware apps with no chance. She is now even saying that ad-aware is doing this. She is running xp home.
I know i'm a bit vague but it's my first post.
Please excuse my english, for i am french.
thanks in advance.

Lebouc, firstly welcome to PC Guide! And being French is not a problem;) You said
A CLIENT OF MINE
I may be wrong and if I am; I appologise. These forums are for non commercial use and just for PC users. I think you might have meant A FRIEND OF MINE :D

Hello lebouc,
Your english is fine from what I can see. (I'm french too, so if ya need any help don't hesitate to post in french ;) )
I'm not sure I understand the problem correctly though. Do you mean that this "friend" receives multiple copies of the same emails or that he/she gets multiple emails he/she doesn't want ?
Ad-Aware doesn't create emails AFAIK....
Have you tried a Virus scan on the machine ? Sounds like it could also be a virus.... but can't be sure.
Some viruses will cause that kind of behaviour, ie. send infected emails out by spoofing addresses and some will bounce back.

You can try this free online virus scan to be sure.
Please post back if I misunderstood your question...

Well first of all thanks for your replies.Secondly ,This person really is my client ,but not related to the computer biz.I'm trying to send her an email and she says she receives 72 instances of the same email. She also gets the same thing from other persons.Since she knows i fiddle around pc's she asked me for help ,and this is what i'm doing, for free.Nothing commercial about it.
I did run antivirus apps and it did see anything.
I,d really like to find out what the problem is, even for my own knowledge.

OK, that rules out the viral or spyware question.
It really sounds like a server issue. I think your best bet would be to call the ISP and check up with them, see if they are having mail server problems. I know I had a similar problem for a while here, but it eventually sorted itself out. How long as this been going on ? If this has been happening for a while, she definitely should get an ISP tech to check her smtp/pop settings or see if they are having problems.

thanks Galadriel
I was thinking about the isp server to,but she has another computer where she has no problem getting those same messages.Ain't that weird.
Ok, then it is time for a complete run down of specs...
Exactly what is installed and what is running.
One of the best ways to handle the running programs will be a HijackThis (http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/) log.........

hmm weird indeed. Maybe a setting in Outlook Express then ? See if the messages get downloaded and deleted from the server..... that may be a reason, although Outlook shouldn't redownload the messages once they've been downloaded even if they are still on the server.... I wonder.
Very odd. Maybe a repair of Outlook would be worth a shot ? Although I'm not entirely sure of the procedure.....
Is she all updated on windows update ?

Go to MJC`S thread and try it. ie Av/Anti-trojan apps... etc

Same mail messages continue to be downloaded from POP3 account
If your POP3 mail account is configured to "leave a copy of messages on the server" under Tools | Accounts | <account> | Properties | Advanced, it sometimes happens that OE downloads the same messages each time you send and receive. This is caused by a damaged "Pop3uidl.dbx" file in your Identity's store folder. This file keeps track of which messages on the server have already been downloaded and should therefore be skipped on subsequent downloads. To fix the problem, simply delete the "Pop3uidl.dbx" file. The next time you check for mail, all the messages on the server will be downloaded again, but a new "Pop3uidl.dbx" will be created that should work properly on subsequent mail checks.
If you are seeing duplicate messages on a Hotmail or IMAP account, this solution will not work because those types of accounts do not use the "Pop3uidl.dbx" file. However there is a simple solution for both Hotmail and IMAP:

I tried your suggestion and it worked just fine.
Thanks to everyone else too.
Glad to hear that it worked, Lebouc. Thank you for letting us know.
