View Full Version : MSI 6547 mobo problems ???

Hi,

Here's my problem....when i turn on the pc the monitor won't turn on and i don't here the hard drive working, even though the video card works in another pc, I have an MSI 6547 mobo, all the parts (hdd, video card, nic, memory, cd-rom ect...) seem good, having checked them by swapping them in another pc, the only parts left that i suspect are the mobo (obviously...) the proc or the power supply,does any one have an idea or should i continue thru with this process of elimination...???

Wow, this is like deja vu:eek: Umm I would say double chechk all wires connection and if it still doesn't work, look to RMA it to either the reseller or MSI.

Actually, that may be a bit premature...

I agree to check the connections, but I would also strip down to a barebones boot and try that. This means just motherboard, CPU w/hsf, power, power switch, keyboard, video, one stick RAM and case speaker. See if you get POST. You need the case speaker to see if it beeps.

If still no POST, try the same setup with a different stick of RAM. If still not POST, try it out of the case on a nonconductive surface (like a piece of cardboard). If still no post, it is likely to be the CPU and/or motherboard. You could try another power supply. If it is a PS that came with a case and it is not a good one, it can fail quite readily... do you get any evidence of power??

If you narrow it down to the motherboard and/or CPU, the only way I know to check that is to swap them out with a compatible system. Make sure you have checked to make sure jumpers are in the right position (especially the Clear CMOS jumper) and that the hsf is plugged into the motherboard...
