Hello to all, this is a petition that I and Saphalline want you, the members of this great forum to read and give your thoughts.
We want to create a forum where people who have extra computer hardware laying around can list it and then others who are interested can Private Message for further trading.
The rule is really simple, we will only be selling/trading computer hardwares, nothing else.
Before I go on, I will need to hear opinions first so let's get to it.
:)

PS: Please come and have a look MJC/Paleo Pete

I think there are lots of other places that people can do that. I have sold a bunch of stuff and bought some from eBay in the past. I have learned of better places to buy most stuff since I have been here, but I will probably still sell some stuff on eBay when I get organized enough to do so.

I think adding that here would lead to possible legal complications, potential disputes that can be quite unpleasant and making the site appear too commercial even if ixl weren't getting a cut. I suspect it would have a negative impact on the credibility of the suggestions offered. If you want to know what the best RAM is and I happen to have a few sticks of Buddy's superRAM sitting around.......

I'd like to see it. I think it could be a nice addition. Maybe limit it to members who have been here a while. 50 posts... been here six months... or something like that.

I voted "that's what ebay is for", because, well, that's what ebay IS for :D.

After reading your post I understand your concerns. To help prevent those things, we can set up rules like what Steve said. In order to trade/buy/sell you'd have to be a member, been here quite a while so that we're familiar with you and have a good attitude.
There's still space for further discussions on this and I'm still waiting for ixl,MJC and Paleo Pete input.

Here's my opinion: I wish Deagle and Saphalline the best of luck with their forum idea.. but if they meant they want to see it here, it's not going to happen.

Why? Simply put, I don't want to deal with the hassle. Buying and selling forums eventually lead to conflicts, arguments, disputes over payment, equipment that "isn't what X said it would be". And I and the mods would be in the middle of it.

Even if everyone has the best of intentions, I've seen how these things wind up. Sorry. --c

We already have a place for this.

It's the IRC #PCG channel ( Link is on the Main page )

Stop by, Chat and you may find as many have already that we trade swap and even give away Old hardware
NO Hassles for the MOD's or IXL..

I'd like to suggest a modification to this idea. We can call it the "salvage pile". Stuff you're just aching to unload but can't bring yourself to throw away and will part with for nothing more than the cost to ship. I personally have lots of this stuff, and I think it will add to the whole "family" vibe we've got going on here. (Every family needs a crazy, drunken uncle. Right?)

That's good idea Yawningdog, why don't ya pitch the idea to ixl by PMing him.

large bottle (industrial size) of Tylenol........

Make mine Demerol...Tylenol won't do a thing...

I haven't looked at the votes, but the comments seem to be mostly unfavorable, and I agree 100% with Ixl and mjc, something like this would turn into a big headache.

Internet Auctions: A Guide for Buyers and Sellers (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/online/auctions.htm) prooduced by the Federal Trade Commission says:

Among the thousands of consumer fraud complaints the FTC receives yearly, those dealing with online auction fraud consistently rank at or near the top of the list. The complaints generally deal with late shipments, no shipments, or shipments of products that aren't the same quality as advertised; bogus online payment or escrow services; and fraudulent dealers who lure bidders from legitimate auction sites with seemingly better deals. Most complaints involve sellers, but in some cases, the buyers are the focus.

The same can't be avoided if we try it here. Nope, forget it, can't be done, ain't gonna happen....that's human nature you're tinkering with, it won't change just because this is a decent site. When it comes to making a $$ DOLLAR $$, you will attract the kind of people out to do nothing but rip others off, and it cannot be stopped or changed.

Don't need it here, don't want it here.

We all know about Ebay of course, then there's...

Ubid (http://www.ubid.com/)

OnSale (http://www.onsale.com/)

Yahoo Auctions (http://auctions.yahoo.com/)

CQ Out (http://www.cqout.com/)

Online Auction Users Association (http://www.auctionusers.org/) has sprung up

QXL (http://www.qxl.com/) for folks in european
locations

Auction Port (http://www.auctionport.com/)

BuySellTrade (http://www.buyselltrades.com/)

And the list goes on, Google can find plenty 5,070,000 hits in 0.10 seconds...

I appreciate your position Pete, but I wonder if you read my post. (Or maybe you read it and simply don't feel the need to comment.) My idea was to just give your junk away to someone who wants it, that way there is no money involved, and nobody gets burned.

Yes, I read your post, I was referring to the original idea in the first post. we've discussed the idea of something similar to your suggestion among the admin and basically came to the same conclusion.
