I have XP Home Edition and a dial-up modem.
After computer has been on for quite a while, I can connect with my ISP, but I can't access web sites. I get a "network problem" message. If I reboot, the problem is solved, temporarily. I leave the computer on all day and turn it off at night. I always have to reboot at least once a day, sometimes more often to correct this.

Any suggestions for what I can do to solve this problem would be appreciated because I don't even have a clue where to look to find out what is causing this.

Don't have this problem with my Win98 computer, so it appears to be an XP "thing".

XP has a new feature not found in the 9x versions of Windows..DNS caching.

You may want to temporarily disable DNS caching.

www.blackviper.com has how to manage various services in XP

A little excerpt.....

Resolves and caches DNS names and Active Directory domain controller functions. This service is not required for DNS lookups, but if it makes you happy to have it running, you may

Had used BlackViper's list to disable many services, but DNS cache was on automatic, so I disabled it. I think maybe that just might fix the problem. It will take a while to see if it does. When I know one way or another, I'll post back. Thanks for the suggestion.

I would like to thank you! Your suggestion fixed a problem that has been driving me crazy for over a year (mostly I just tried to ignore it). I disabled the DNS cache as per Black Viper's instructions, and my computer was on all day and I never had to reboot it-first time since I bought the computer.

Really appreciate your taking the time to help.
