View Full Version : I could use some help
Hi all...
Those who have looked at The TCP/IP Guide so far have liked it. I know many of you are reviewing it still, and it is large so please take the time you need.
I am busy trying to promote the product and let people know it exists. But so far there have basically been no sales. This isn't all that alarming, as the site is new. I also believe that this Guide is not likely to be of interest to the average person. It will be of use to those who are studying networking, undergoing training in companies that work with the Internet, those doing certifications and so forth.
I am trying to identify leads in these areas so I can get word out about this resource. If anyone has contacts that they might be willing to share with me, I would be most grateful. Examples might be people in the textbook industry; professors or teachers of technical topics such as computers or networking; people in companies who perform training, and so forth.
Any additional ideas or suggestions also appreciated. Thanks!
Charles

I can do two things, if that's ok with you:
- I can tell about it on some belgian forums I frequent, that will certainly attract some attention (though don't expect us to come swarming by the thousands ;) )
- The place where I follow my course right now might also be interested, as "Network administrator" is one of the courses given. I can "alert them" as well. Don't know if the in-depth-experience of 1500 pages is suitable for course material, but then again maybe it is (haven't read it all yet :) )
Regardless of this I think it would be worthwile to advertise/post on some tech-sites. Slashdot springs to mind, geek.com as well. Maybe on forums of the big networking companies (cisco etc...).

I can definitely give either the IT team leader or a senior teacher a sneak peek, see if they have any interest. They curently run the usual "network management" courses among others as well as IT Essentials, CCNA, looking into CCNP, and there is a surprising lack of recommended (or even decent) text books.
That wouldnt be for about another month though, when I go back.::rolleyes:

You better not, as that would empty Belgium immediately.
Thanks for the replies guys, and the offers of assistance in spreading the word. They are much appreciated.
Abbadon, I know what you mean about advertising the material on various techie sites. However, this *is* a commercial product and I don't want to be seen as spamming. I think that will happen in time as more people see the product and hopefully like it.

Ive just asked a friend whos doing a Cisco course if he wouldnt mind passing on the web address and samples to his teacher and class mates.
One daft question, when you talk about technologies, what technologies are they?
Thank you, Jiggy.. but I'm afraid I don't understand your question.

I'll certainly put the word around my CCNA network academy class. There are quite a few other courses at the college I attend which could benefit from a guide like this.
Thanks Deddard.. it is in colleges that I really need to get the word out.

Hi Charles,
Here are a couple of links that might help.
http://www.empcol.com/
http://www.careertrans.com/home.htm
http://www.santarosa.edu/techacad/
I will try to research a little deeper on these and some other ideas.
I no longer have contacts at these places but am familiar with them because they are local to me. I have yet to take a look at the site, but as soon as I post this, I will ;)
Good luck
Frank
Thanks, Jiggy and Bassman. Jiggy, that's exactly what I need -- referrals, spreading word of mouth. Bassman, I will check out your links, though I suspect "cold calling" colleges won't work nearly as well as personal recommendations. But I have to try lots of things. :)
