This thread is the result of some late night channel surfing, and the discovery of a disturbingly lame movie called 'ICQ'.

I felt I would share my amusement at the way computers are utilised in movie.:D

The most common misrepresentation seems to be the incredible clarity of streaming audio/video, in quite a number of movies (insert the tilte of your favourite computer movie here). Also the unneccessary "Youve Got Mail" or similar audio announcement, who the hell sets their email client to check apparently every 5 seconds.

After studying networking however the one that most amuses me so far is 'Anti-Trust', Where a global network of satellites is meant to be able to control all transmission media (television radio etc) and yet at least some of the satellites have IP addresses in the range of 10.*.*.*, reserved (http://www.nthelp.com/40/ip.htm) for private addressing.

I like the way they hack into other computers and crack passwords at the speed of light.

crack passwords at the speed of light
Manually without the aid of any tools.:D

Or passwords that appear on screen in plain text giant letters.

I love how in "Hackers" the kid can walk up to a random computer in his school, see some pretty graphics, and all the sudden the fire sprinkler system's active. Or when he breaks into the TV station (again with the aid of a 286 and pretty graphics) and changes the show on TV. So very very realistic:rolleyes:

My sister......we'll not every 5 seconds, but something like every minute or so.

Well, it can be done if the default passwords aren't changed......and there are way too many people who leave them in place. The plain text passwords are also something that can be "real" but are about as stupid as using default passwords.....

Streaming on a gigabit network is about that smooth.....so I guess if you are Hollywood movie mogul, you don't really pay attention to what the rest of the world has to deal with.

My favorite "super" power for computers is the attacker hits a key and then the quick cut to the attacked computer exploding.........
