See this http://www.foldershare.com/
What uses can this be put to?
Are there any associated problems?

one use that I can think of is that you can update all the diagnostic flowcharts without any of us having to bother.
:D
associated problems: we wouldn't know whether you'd done them or not !

It looks like you set up a peer network among buddies, rather like in MS Messenger. On each PC there is a folder where files are kept [and they are all identical copies] and if anyone up-dates a file, then all the files on all the other PC's are up-dated.
The present arrangement for the Diagnostic Flowcharts is even better than that because anyone can access them.
I'm trying to think of a use for this.
Family photographs would be a good one.
All the photo's you put in there would be available to every member of the family. It's a common library accessible to all the "members".

Problem would be that it would require an always on connection to prevent two people updating the same file differently.

I wonder:
If two people made alterations:
When they connected, would the last update overwrite the 2nd last even though it didn't include the latest information?

Ive seen similar software, for use on LANs mostly, but some over the net, and they all seemed to specify an always on connection(for the inet versions) or allowed a VPN connection, and the more expensive versions utilised a check-in/check-out system to prevent that kind of problem.
I think they're mostly aimed at businesses that run fairly large project teams so that all members responsible for a specific project element dont need to constantly get together for meeting to explain changes which allow geographiclly seperated people to take part in a single project.
