Hey there guys and gals,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have WinXP Home boot directly to a desktop (in other words, without having to stop at a welcome or log on screen.) The computer in question only has one account, and we would like to forego the logon.
Thanks,
DC

It is possible, but I think it means always running as the Administrator and there is some danger in doing that since you have full access to change any part of the system....
I think it is Users and Passwords, but I am not certain... Someone who is using WinXP will hopefully be by. In Win2K (which is similar) you can set it to not require a password and it boots right into the OS....

If you have Tweak UI you can use it by clicking "Logon" then click on "Autologon" and checking the box labeled "Log on automatically..." and set the Users name then click the "Set Password" and enter the password.
You can download it from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
Or
Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type 'control userpasswords2', and then click OK. In the dialog box that appears, clear the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box, and then click OK.

It is important to know:
In XP Home ALL users have full administrator rights by default. If you don't have password protection you have just given crackers their dream, a wide open machine.
It makes sense to give users limited accounts and using Admin accounts as little as possible while connected to the Internet.
