Hi, everyone.
My computer installed Win 98 SE, it is OK.
But when I tried to upgrade to WIn2000, I failed many times,
it said hardware malfunction.
ANybody can tell me what can result this, but it is fine in Win98?

first of all how do you perform the upgrade of your system. As far as I know WIN 98 SE is running under FAT32. while WIN2K is running NTFS . just make sure your drive is formated to NTFS.

It doesn't matter what file system you are using; W2000 is capable of handling FAT/FAT32/NTFS-this has nothing to do with your upgrading problems.
Windows 2000 is based on the NT kernel, and as such has a much more demanding criteria for hardware-you need at least 64mb's of memory( though 128 is the real minimum ) and a CPU running around 200 mhz ( faster is better ).
More than likely you've a peripheral card ( sound/video/modem etc..) that W2000 is not able to recognize and intialize properly in it's hardware detection phase of setup.
Look for two log files called { setuperr.log/setupact.log } they should tell you what item is was that caused the hang-up.
As a side note, if you have at least 4 GB's free on a seperate partition ( or another hard drive itself ) then set up a dual boot; this way you keep all your original W98 settings/progams and can get a feel for W2000.
Then at a later date if you choose you can delete the W98 partition and go strictly with W2000.

Thanks,I will try your suggestion soon. I have a Brand new Maxtor 40 G Harddisk, and I like have Win98 & Win2k at same time.
By the way, it there anything about BIOS setup? Or something called UltraDMA mode?

Disable virus protection in bios. Also how old is your motherboard, some will not take 2000, go to your motherboard manufacturers site and see if there are any issues on this subject.

Sledgehammer will save the day!
Don`t forget to disabel PNP operating system in your BIOS, Win 2000 will automatically set up all IRQ`s itself.
Mostly on IRQ 9, for more info check out this http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q252/4/20.ASP
