we have a system using a asus motherboard, and a celeron chip,
started with a 4 gb, crashed bad sectors, replaced with another new 4 gb, crashed with bad sectors, replaced with 20gb fujitsu, crashed with bad sectors, replaced. Can a motherboard/memory/cpu/power supply crash a hard drive. this is over a 2 1/2 year time span.
A number of things can cause a drive to crash.
Heat, Vibration, heavy use, and power brown outs.
I’d start by looking at the power supply. What’s installed in the system.
How many drives memory cards.
What size power supply.
What is power out of outlet like?
Does it have a surge protector
does it suffer from brown outs.
Does it get any shocks .. both electrical and natural .
Have seen people tap foot on side of case while using system in the past.

It's usually a PSU problem. I've had hard drives die in the past, also, for various reasons. In fact, I have this one Maxtor 20GB hard drive that doesn't seem to want to completely die...
Anyway, I have an old 1.2GB hard drive that's still plugging away and all my current hard drives have never given me any problems. But then again, I've had DOA hard drives and other hard drives that didn't last 6 months before they died. Warranties can be your best friend in these cases. :D
