Here goes.
I finally got a copy of Win98se, I want to install over my existing Win98 1st ed.

Questions:

1) Can I just install over the existing 98 (i.e. will it overwrite) ?
- if so will it save my personal files ?
- if not what is the best approach to accomplishing this ?

I know the easy answer is to copy my files 1st, but I don't even know all
of them, and I have some additional programs I'd like to keep like MS access ..

I did this previously, so yes to both parts, or rather it did for me. obviously backup first or continue at your own risk.

So you installed the SE over the FE and it worked fine ?

As far as backup thats the problem it's a family machine so many users and files all over the place so I wouldn't even know where to start.

As far as doing the install, any special prep or set up to do 1st or just install right from the cd ?

no prep. just popped in the CD & installed. it ran fine.

not sure, but I think there was an option to retain original settings in order to revert back if required, which I think I did initially then deleted them at a later stage.
