Hi
Started using that wonderful XP program and once agian faced with Redmond assumption that I am an idiot, auto this, already done that, you want this, do it this way, etc.
I want icon view in windows explorer as a default except in shared folders, and I want all my local drives to show as well the shared folder when I first open windows explorer.
And, how do I remane User's shared documents/shared documents folder
thanks guys

You can set up "classic views" of things in XP if you want them.
For the Start > Programs Menu (Rclick Start Button and choose Properties).
For the Windows Explorer views open My Computer and from the Tools > Folder Options > General Tab (change to Classic View). If using the new XP-type format simply clicking on the "Folders" toolbar button will expand the left pane "classically".
Getting the default folder views to stick has often been a problem for ages in many flavours of windows. But from the View Menu of My Computer first select Icons and them go immediately to the Tools > Folder Options > View menu and select "Apply to all folders".
To open Explorer in "the normal two paned view" add the /e switch to the command line after making a new shortcut to Windows Explorer. eg %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e ... or just enter explorer.exe /e into the run box.
Some Other Switches (http://windows.about.com/library/tips/bltip445.htm)
Yet another method is to RClick My Computer and choose Explore - having first chosen "Show on Desktop" from My Computer from the Start button if you want to have the icon on the desktop.
There are so many ways for an old dog to skin a new cat!! ;) There's even hold down the Windows key and hit E.
