I went to black vipers site http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm awhile back and turned off everything under "safe" settings. Everything works fine but my computer takes forever to shutdown. I ask my a friend of mine about it and he says it could be one of the settings I changed under the XP services. Wonder if this is true or is it something else? I have ran, every cleaner and antivirus there is and I am clean. Don't get it. Still reading vipers site but cant come up with anything.

Black Viper's tweaks usually have the opposite effects, they speed everything up.... You could run HijackThis and see if anything shows up there. To run HJT, extract it to a permanent folder such as C:\Documents or one you create like C:\HJT. Close all other programs except security. Run it and Scan, then Save the log. When the log window appears, Right click to copy it, open your browser and come here to post the log. Do not make any changes until it is checked since most items are either benign or essential to the computer.

Maybe you set XP to clear the pagefile at shutdown because that usually has quite an effect...

This can slow you down a bit because every time you shut down windows, it will clean all MRU locations. Setting 'clear page file at shutdown' takes awful lot of time to shutdown. It's a reg hack performed manually or even by a few utilities. You can check whether it's enabled by running regedit, navigate to the following key,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management

If there is no entry on the right hand side panel by the name of 'clearpagefileatshutdown' or If there is an entry but the data value is 0, the clear page file setting is not enabled. If the data value is 1, It is enabled and you need to change it to 0 to disable it for faster shutdown.

There are few other tweaks for faster shutdown, try these first and see how it goes.

I found what it was after closeing everything and then trying to shutdown again. I was using the Windowblinds software http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/ I load it again and then shut down and sure enough it lagged. Closed it and shutdown to make sure and it closed real fast. Checked for that 'clearpagefileatshutdown' and it was disabled.
