I have a Dell 8250 pentium 4
2.53ghz I use xp home edition.
my problem is thsi:I inadvertently tranferred a partial file to my recycling bin.now I want to restore it and get the following msge.
Cannot move Dc7.it is being used by another person or program.Close any programs that might be using the file and try again
I turned off teh comp and tries again.same msge,what is happening?

I guess the next step would be to try it in safe mode. Might work. :)

How did you transfer a partial file?
What kind of file is it?
If it is a data file you can manipulate, rename the current one. Restore the deleted one and manipulate them that way.

this is a file I dl(movie) from winmx and was incomplete when I did send it to the recycling bin in error

I don't know what you want with a partial movie file, but follow my instructions and you should be able to restore it unless you have already overwritten the space.

this was a file I was waiting to complete from a user.
in the recycling bin I cannot rename or do anything

Make sure WinMX is shut down by right-clicking on its icon in the system tray and choosing "exit". Then try to restore it.

the thing that puzzles me the most is in the error msge it says other programs-what other programs other than winmx.??????

If this was a partially downloaded file - then which program were you using to download it; perhaps that program still has the hots for it!

You could try associating it with a different program, such as wordpad.
You could then delete it if the re-association works, as you can be sure that it isn't being used unless wordpad has it open in front of you.
