PCI BUS NOT DETECTED

Installed win-95 verison with IE3 on Compaq deskpro. After installation sys fails to load anything connected to the pci bus like the modem and onboard video s3 pci adapter.Device manager shows problems with the bus, however whenever removed and reinstalled the bus still don't load.

Welcome to the world of Compaq Proprietary Systems.
You need to download and install the drivers from Compaq.

By remove and install PCI.
I am assuming you are talking about the daughter card used in a number of Compaq systems

take the model number and visit the Compaq tech support site .
Download the video and modem drivers.
Also all other system dependent drivers.

A few of these may have direct support in Win 98. But don’t count on it.

Thanks Rick for the infomation. I dont have a daughter card in this sys. Are you saying that win-95 don't support needed drivers for the PCI bus in some compaq systems?

What he is saying is that 98 may have direct support without using manufacturer specific drivers. 95 will support these drivers if you can find and install them.
Try Compaq's site to see if you can find their drivers and you should be good to go.
If you can't find what you are looking for there, you may need to order the original install disks from Compaq. Cost-about $10.00, has all drivers originaly designed to make that machine work, along with OS and some other software.

Windows 95 lacks support for a lot of things.
PCI for one thing.
USB for another depending on the control chip you have

It also depends on what version of Win95 you have.
Win95 version 2.5 has a lot of the drivers you need

But Not All of them.
Like your modem and S3 card.
For those you need to download the drivers from Compaq
