I`d try to FDISK it, delete dos partition, then create a new one.......if this doesn`t work it could be dead. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

First off, only use these disk utilities if you're sure you've got all your data backed up and are preparing to do a full re-install of your OS and data.

Once you FDISK/Format properly; ther's no going back-all your data is lost. Generally-at least by my rule of thumb-whenever i know i'm going to do a fresh install/re-install of an OS i always delete the primary and all extended/logical drives, then rebuild them and use the disk utitlity manager from that particular drive's company to " zero fill " the drive ( similar to a extensive format ) then use the standard format < your drive letter here >: /s/u command-then proceed with the install from there.

Post back with some more info on your system and the OS you are using, this sounds like a possible disk reporting error-have you used the Disk cleanup option to remove all temp and other unnecessary backup files?

Hi Gameover,
When you ran the Scandisk, did you do a thorough scan? and if so, what did the report at the end say for "Bytes in bad sectors." Should have got this report with either type of run (standard, or thorough) but the thorough will also try to repair any damaged sectors.

Could be some Bad Sector try to re format or use some third party software to diagnose the Disk

Once againDO NOT proceed with formating/fdisking until you are sure you have all your data backed up and are prepared to reinstall your operating system and files.

Try the previous suggestion for a thurough surface scan-get your hard drive manufacturers disk utility. If it is dying, you'd actually be better of to purchase a new harddrive-cause with bad sectors, it'll only get worse over time as the drive continues to fail.
