Hi,
I have a HP pavillion 6640C which does not boot at all. The keyboard does not light up & there are no beeps at all. The hard disk light does not light up when the power is switched on. I tried accessing the bios without any luck. I just get a blank screen. What might the problem? I'm trying to get an idea if the problem can be fixed at a reasonable cost or it is better buy another pc. HP says it would cost me $360 to fix the problem, which I think is more than the current value of the PC!!

"fried"might be the right word! Since the PC is out of warranty, HP would charge me that much no matter what the problem is.
I do have power - the fan & the CD work. Not much noice though when its powered on

Could be the power supply...the HP case is a little on the small side but with careful searching you can find a one the would fit. You can for a test try hooking up another one, just remove the power connections and plug in another oner...if it fires up then start hunting down onw that would actually fit or just get a new case with a power suplly and transfer everything else over.
