please help me, i recently constructed a pc from scratch, it had been working fine for a week, when, today it all went wrong. The fan started to make a strange noise and then for some reason it powered off by itself and when i try and boot it now it keeps crashing. The power comes on, the fan starts but the monitor does not come on. It sounds like the hard drive is booting the os but after a few seconds it powers off. i wonder if it is over heating maybe but i don't know why the graphics card doesn't boot. when you first turn the power on there are a series of beeps???

The system is a AMD 1.3ghz, 256mb ram, 10gb harddrive, 32mb s3 savage4 graphice card, win98 se, atx case and a via kt-133a chipset 663as ultra k7 200/266 fsb udma 100 4xagp atx motherboard.

IF your CPU fan was off for more than 8 seconds with the system turned on.......you just lost your cpu. IT's a giant problem with AMD Athalon processors...they have no capacity to shut down at a predetermined temp. other than with software shutdown programs.
