Saphalline and I were thinking about the trend of Naming inanimate objects, when it occurred to us, what about our computers? do any of you out there tend to personify your computers in such ways as, for example, giving them names? I had a friends who would not only talk to the computer, but tuck it in for bed. does it make a difference if you pieced it together or bought it whole? is there a "Naming Pattern" such as male/female, or speed delineation?
How Personable do you tend to make your 'puter?

Well, he doesn't have a name yet, but he's definitly a he now. He used to be a she when I had just built him. (don't ask me why, haven't got a clue)
Also, when he's working good I repeatedly talk to him as beeing "a good boy" and "c'mon, just a little bit more" and "go on, do it for daddy".
But tucking him into bed? That would go a bit far for my taste :)

Mine occasionally gets reffered to as "You stupid son of a *****!":p
The only other time my computer gets an identity, is when I give it a hostname, which can occasionally be odd.

Mine used to be very whiny, but I got a new fan for my north bridge so that's in the past now

I personally can't bring myself to see mine as a person, which is odd, considering I see just about everything with "personality" as a person...even lawnmowers (you know, acting better when you talk nice, acting worse when you bad mouth it. I had a lawnmower that wouldn't start for 5 years sputter to life as soon as I asked it to politely...).
As "personality"-ridden as my computer is, one would imagine I would identify it...but I took a computer and upgraded piece by piece as I state in my sig. to me, it may be a community of personable items that work together, but the entire thing would be equivalent to me to be a town...and the blue screens? that's when there's a town council meeting, and half the computer parts are democratic, and the other half republican! (don't worry, the parts switch sides often, I am convinced...)
perhaps I should name my parts...the librarian, the visionary, the teacher, the coordinator/secretary, the analyst, the cell phone user, and the child that just discovered reading, the old windbag, the psychologist taht keeps everyone's tempers cool...That way I can just get angry at the part that's upset....

If you have Windows as an OS, I think you should call your computer Socrates, because it asks you a lot of questions which make you think because you have no ready reply to it...

Careful, Abbadon, this might become an incestuous relationship.

My kid named his machines "Demon Speed" and "Critical Addiction". He names his cars, too.
I have one computer code named "Dumbo" because I modded the side panel to include two elephant outlines. My wife's case has a modded side panel with two cat outlines. Her case has purple cathodes inside, so we call it the Purple (insert P word for cat here). :D
My other machine at home is called "The Epox Build", 'cause it has an Epox motherboard.
My Caddy is called Big Blue or just plain Blue.

My computers have all had various names, but they have always been very temporary and most often not suitable for mixed company....:D :D

The computer I use now has been upgraded in stages from an old socket 7 machine. Same monitor and fdd, but it's come a long way! Hence the name "Frankenstein's Monster," (also known as "You raggedy piece of ****, what is your major malfunction?!?") :D

In my company, all servers are named after superheroes (superman, batman, etc) and all printers are named after great "guy movies" (caddyshack, desperado, vacation, scarface, etc)
My company's parent organization is part of the Catholic church, and all of their servers are named after saints (Paul, Peter, etc)
The ones at home? All named based on how much work I had to put into them (Monster, Lucifer, ayeaaress, etc)
