Have any of you ever watched this show ?
I don't think I ever heard of it until today, when I found this aticle.
This was long before Big Brother, and it's a lot worse IMHO. People who complain about Big Brother should read this. It's an old text file published by the famous Cult of the Dead Cow, before they started getting into Backdoor Orifice trojans and such...

A rather interestingly delusional article.

Well, why do you think so (I hope you don't mind my insisting  ) ?

What happens when this turn-in-anyone-who-looks-like-the-picture-and-they-
will-go-to-jail-and-you-will-be-a-hero mentality (I use the word "mentality" lightly) becomes a tool for the government?

As though the government didnt have enough tools at their disposal already to find whoever they might be looking for.

this person's doing a good job, getting public attention, and generally being a pain in your bureaucratic fat lazy ass.
Ok, no problem, so you decide to waste 'em.

If that were the case dead bodies would be turning up everywhere.

Kill anybody who calls up and reports on somebody, kill the
producers, kill the creator, kill the cameraperson, kill the ****head of an introducer.

I think this speaks volumes about the mental age of the writer.

Overall the article is just a mindless rant by someone who hates the government.

Thanks for warning me about that, YODA74, but are you really serious about this ? Do you think I should remove this thread ? Why should it start a flame war ? The time I have spent on these forums until now has shown that posters here are generally very well able to restrain their more extreme feelings. It is true that the discussion could tend to get politically involved, but wasn't there a thread about Saddam and Irak which hasn't had any dire consequences ?
Anyway, we'll see... I suppose if there is a real need for it, the moderator will intervene.

A mindless rant ? I don't agree with you, pave_spectre. If delation is so useless, then why was it used so much during the communist era in the Soviet Union ?

But relating to that quote, you missed the point there, pave_spectre.
You left out the last sentence which was needed to understand that it was meant in a sarcastic way. Like this :

Kill anybody who calls up and reports on somebody, kill the
producers, kill the creator, kill the cameraperson, kill the ****head of an introducer. Save us before we're ALL rounded up. Preventative measures, that sort of thing. You know....
If someone doesn't see the part you left out, he could easily come to the same conclusion as you did - that the writer was mentally and emotionally immature.

I wonder if one of us is going crazy... that link is the webpage at Totse where the article is displayed and I just checked it again because I thought you must be joking or something... it IS the article's link, you know. Not the slightest whiff of porn far or wide (relative to my link of course ; relative to the internet as a whole I wouldn't be too sure).

I am writing out the link here in full, it's the URL of the webpage and it's the same a the one I posted :
http://www.totse.com/en/ego/cult_of_the_dead_cow/cdc169.html
Could that kind of link lead anywhere near porn ? You tell me.

Edit : I forgot this : the fact that pave_spectre commented on the article should be proof to you that you are mistaken... or something like that poltergeist of another-thread-fame must have come back to haunt you now...

As an afterthought : you must be using a computer with a "multi-tasking" environment. You must have been mixing up some of those tasks... :P

There's a nice big tab on the side of that page that says "erotica." Boobies follow.

Jeeza, you earlier stated, "the time I have spent on these forums until now has shown that posters here are generally very well able to restrain their more extreme feelings." That's true. The question is, why push it?

pentachris, you are mistaken. I am not pushing anything, I provided the link to that article without thinking of that link.
True, it says "erotica" on that button. But no "boobies follow". There is indeed an erotica section on the Totse website - for adult members.
Well, I just meant to write that you have to go through an Adult Verification check which means that no one who is not an adult has access to any erotica, but I was scrolling down the page and true enough, it's not displayed in your browser if you don't scroll down, but a busty damsel's torso is displayed there.
Here is where I have to change slightly the course of my reply... well, that's too bad. If that one nude young female's torso means that visitors to this forum may never see a link to that site, then I believe that something is wrong.
Don't you guys think you are going just a tiny bit too far ?
Even if some young people might hang out here from time to time - they are likely to visit all kinds of places on the internet BTW - I am quite sure many, many more hang out on Totse and I am really sorry for you people who want links to that site banned for the sole reason described above.
I might add, YODA74 and pentachris, if that's the way you think, you should never let your children visit a classic art gallery.

I'm not saying I don't agree with the posting of the link. I think it's close to the limit of what's acceptable, but it's not my call to make.

Do I have anything more to add? I think it would be best if I stopped right here.

The point is this I don't care it isn't my forum so i could care less the fact of the matter is I can put up with some language and seeing some language posts Heck I've even used some pretty rough Language my self .
But when you post a site that has direct links to porn I draw the line.

I might add, YODA74 and pentachris, if that's the way you think, you should never let your children visit a classic art gallery.

This isn't a classic art gallery this is a pc help forum..
And if IXL wants to let this kind of material fly thats fine with me but i'm sure that people that mention this place (on tv) and or other places would just as soon distance themselves from this type of "art gallery"

Edit : I forgot this : the fact that pave_spectre commented on the article should be proof to you that you are mistaken...

And NOT talking bad about pave_spectre this isn't about that person!!!!! But who in the Hell is pave_spectre but just another spectator? is he something special in your or someone else's book am I supposed to bow to this person?

Why should it start a flame war ?
no one said anything about a flame war ? just said it may cause some &^%$? as apparently it is going to.

It is true that the discussion could tend to get politically involved,
This has nothing to do with politics???? so don't drag that dog in the house.

No I have a beautiful wife and have no reason for nonsence,
I could say something real witty but I am not going to lower my self to your level again. you are new here and from what i see just post to post. It's up to IXL & the mods to deal with it not me

Okay, three things.

First, everyone remember that we are all supposed to be treating each other with respect around here.

Second, I would REALLY rather not waste my time dealing with this sort of silliness.

Third... I certainly do not want pornography posted here, nor do I want direct links to pornography from the site. In this case, we have a link to a text article, that just so happens to be on a site that also has an "Erotica" section. The latter section is clearly marked -- you have to click on it, then click *again* on the warning/disclaimer. So it's not like anyone is going to see something "by accident".

I really do not want to start having to police the entire contents of every Web site that is ever linked from here. Heck, anyone who knows what to search for can bring up porn on Google too with 2 mouse clicks. That said, if we could perhaps *not* try to push the envelope, I would be grateful, as I have better things to do. Like finishing cleaning the kitchen.

YODA74,
So as not to force you to reply and thus "lower yourself to my level" again (just between us both : I wouldn't want to be at yours) I would just like to mention that just about everything I am bringing up, you seem to reply to but don't actually do so.
I am not new here and from what I can see, what you want is censure of what people may or may not read.

You know jeeza....Sometimes it sure would be nice if you just left well enough alone (or stopped "pushing the envelope" so to speak) and let ixl finish with his kitchen in peace.

Well I took the bait and went to the link and browsed through the article.

First while I am left of center and rarely agree with the Christian right, I do not refer to them in the derogatory manner in this article.

Second, while I oppose the Patriot Act and the attempt by the Attorney General to turn the USA into the snoop against your neighbor land, I also can express my view without resorting to profanity.

And finally, having surfed the web, watched movies on cable and watched the Super Bowl last Sunday, Guys... let's not get worked up over the word erotica

All that being said, while I agree with basic ideas expressed in the article unles the author can express himself in a more adult fashion, I'm not really interested in reading what he/she has to say.

You could be right, jabarnutcase, although I suppose he will have finished by now anyway...
