a fairly trivial problem I cannot get the 'disconnect after n minutes inactivity' to work for a friend running w95/oe5. The connection boxes shows continual intermittent activity, though the user is doing nothing. (Ihave the same problem on my W98se/oe6) has anybody any ideas - my friend continually forgets to disconnect!!!:) :)

Hi peterc2, welcome to the forums at http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif.
Something is communicating. More than likely it's malware of some sort, although it could be a "heartbeat" program that occasionally sends signals to prevent disconnection regardless of activity (yes, some people want that to happen). I'd run an up-to-date virus scan and give it a good scrubbing with Spybot S&D and Adaware.

Many thanks for replying. I run AdAware, SpyBot and the Sygate personal firewal on my machine and as I said I have the same problem/symptons. I take a DLL to my friend today and hope to get AdAwre working her her machine so we'll see what that does.
Incidentally, when I tried to install the firewall on her machine it would not wear it without an update to DUN. As it's not my box I didn't like to fiddle - my friend is a nervous, elderly lady and worries when confronted with any change!!
And is 'thinking about kay' a signature - if so I could put Thinking about O on my messages.
Thanks again
peterC
