Quicken 2004 or the monitor?

A friend who has a 4-year-old Dell Dimension running Windows 98SE with 128MG and has a Dell Sony Trinitron 21 inch monitor.

We just installed Quicken 2004 and when he clicks on something in that program the screen doesn't completely refresh and seems to hang up. I don't know if he waited long enough if it would clear up. But at this point he closes Quicken and then his desktop is lighter (sometimes). If he clicks and blank space the desktop clears up.

It's not happening in any other program.

What's say you?

My guess would be something funky happened during the Quicken installation.
I must say, that's a strange one. The fact that it doesn't happen with any other Program make me suspect Quicken- (Although I can't imagine what would cause symptoms like that....Other than maybe the Computer doesn't meet system requirements for Quicken 2004).
You might try re-installing the App. (Check minimum requirements first)

If it were happening with other programs too, I would suspect the Monitor, Cable or Video card.

I have checked requirements and we are within those limits.

It seemed to install okay but I guess we could start over.

I seem to remember reading that the latest version of Quicken is installing with more copy protection and possibly even some spyware. That could be what is causing the problem if it is true... I couldn't find any details on it, so I may be remembering it wrong....

Quicken is produced by Intuit....the same people who put C-Dilla into Turbo tax in 2002...caused them a lot of public embarrassment too, but I seriously doubt if they have learned their lesson. I haven't heard of any new attempts at bundling spyware with Intuit software, but I wouldn't touch it.

We're in doubt, but run Adaware and hijack this anyway. Post your HJT log here, and we can have a look at it. What's happening sounds like
a) Bad memory
b) Flaky software installation
c) Virus
d) Other crudware misbehaving.
Bad memory can be pretty much ruled out since this only happens with Quicken. Same for virus. That leaves the other two, but I would run a virus scan to be sure.
