Just bought a ThinkPad T41. The rep told me that when the 802.11g Centrino comes out I will be able to upgrade my 802.11b. After I had more time to think about it, I began to wonder... how easy or difficult or expensive will this upgrade be? Would anyone please venture a guess? Also ...pleeeease understand that I am nearly totally PC and notepad dumb. So... how easy or difficult would it be to add Bluetooth to my non-Bluetooth-embedded T41? Is that just a PC card?
Any info usefull info is very much appreciated.

I remember this;
Q: "How can you tell when a salesman is lying?"
A: "You can see his lips move"
I hope you got that promise in writing.
Your correct .. Adding Bluetooth is just a matter of a Pc card
I Have not looked at adding one so I can’t say How much it will cost..
As for upgrading the 11B to 11G that depends on the chipset and the real changes made to the two protocols
If the protocol is nothing more than software.
Hey it could be a simple software upgrade.
If it is Bios related and controlled then a Bios flash may do it.
Or you may find the saleman just found a way to sell yet another Pc card

The wireless in centrino is based on a mini-pci card. So you could theoretically pop open the computer pull out the 802.11b card and put in the 802.11g card. However you run into 3 main problems.
1. You'll probably void the warranty in doing so
2. The antennas may or may not be compatible (they probably will, but you never know)
3. And between the cost of the mini-PCI and the risk, its probably easier to just use a PCMCIA upgrade card.
Out of curiosity, do you do a lot of file transfers or just internet. Cause if you do just internet 802.11g won't show any improvement over 802.11b.

Hey, ChipSet, good luck with your upgrade. I also just bought a T41 and am having a heckuva time with the active hard drive protection. It kicks in every time I move the laptop. Did you have any experience with this? Thanks.
