Need help desperately! I have my first paying DV job coming any day and I can't even capture video from my camcorder

I've been unable to capture video from my Sony TRV103 DV camcorder.
I've tried 4 different types of software (Studio DV8, Premier, Premier Pro, Movie Maker)

As soon as I turn on the camcorder and the software detects the capture source the app hangs. Error report shows "app hangs" or something like that.

Config:
MSI Nvidia K7N2Delta (with latest BIOS)
Athlon 2400+ Thoroughbred
Crucial 512K PC 2100 X 2
ATI Rage Pro Fury 128
Belkin F5U503 3Port Fire Wire Card
Samsung 120gig 7200 RPM
Maxtor 13gig
CDRW
DV Player
10/100 NIC
Syncmaster 955F 19" monitor
Microtech Zio Compact Flash Drive
Brother MFC 4350 printer

Win XP Home SP1
McAffee Firewall and Anti Virus

I replaced my Pinnacle TI compatible capture card with this Belkin last week (because it seemed obvious that this was a hardware issue) and it made no difference.

This has to be either an OS or hardware issue. I have no other issues when running other apps like Photoshop, Photobrush, etc.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help!

Does connecting your camcorder make the system hang? Does it show up in Device Manager? Are there any yellow exclamation points in DM? Are you running the latest drivers for vid & firewire card(s)? Which PCI slot(s) have you tried? Which version of DX do you have?

Just a thought... what other software is up & running on your PC?

Perhaps things like MSN, Yahoo, netmeeting & the like may be trying to use the cam image... Have you maybe got a webcam connected?

Cam does not hang system at all. Only hangs app when app is running.

No conflicts in Device Manager.

Have latest drivers for Vid Card and Firewire Card

Looks like I have Direct X version 9?? (screen shot of reg below)

Someone in another forum suggested that some chipsets don't work with DV capture. Could that be it? Nvidia problem???

Wow.

I can't believe it.

Everything is working great!

I captured edited and created a quick move in less than 2 minutes in Pinnacle Studio DV 8.

I was able to run both Studio DV 8 and Premier Pro at the same time no problem.

Guess what it was??

It was a USB conflict in device manager! I saw that and didn't even think it would matter.

I let XP fix that conflict and everything works great now.

Thanks for your help Saphalinne and others!
