Phoenix is now part of Award, but I'm not sure if the BIOS are interchangeable.

In some cases, such as when you add memory, you only have to enter BIOS, save changes and exit, without changing anything, to let it see the new memory amount.

First set BIOS defaults, then make sure the hard drive and floppy parameters are correct. If that doesn't work replace the CMOS battery, checksum error means either the battery is dead or BIOS sees hardware configuration that is different than the settings currently in effect.

Second, use the [Pause] key to stop the boot process while the BIOS ID string is displayed, and write it down. It's the long number at bottom left. Wim's BIOS (http://www.wimsbios.com/) is the best place to try and identify it.

Third, contact the motherboad manufacturer, and find out if they might have later installed a different BIOS and the change is not reflected in the manual.

Flash BIOS ONLY if absolutely necessary.

i had just tried a proggy named "ctbios" it stated that there was no bios at all. i then tried the flasher utitily and had the bin file <bios> to flash
useing a bootdisk to get to the dos prompt @ "a:"

If there is a problem and the BIOS ROM chip does not seem to be the porper one for this board, contact Shuttle tech support for purchasing a new chip (maybe even one under warranty), most manufacturers have them available...also are you sure you have the correct flash utility for the board...try here (http://www.shuttleonline.com/spec.php3?model=ak12a)both the BIOS and the manual.

Also here (http://www.pcmech.com/show/bios/81/) has some info for recovering form a bad flash...

yes i ddo have all the info i needed before i started to even think about flashing the bios ,
i have flashed meny boards before and know the importance of haveing "ALL info on hand" ,correct flasher, correct bios file ....
the only reason that i tried the flash cuz i new the bios was curroupt
"hence"- bios rom checksum error"
although im not new to flashing i am new to buying a new mobo and having the bios crap out on first post....sh*t happends i guess
so im gunna dig out the old P3V4X ASUS and game it up till then i hope the spacewalker gets some gravity and floats away $84.00 leason learned...
I thank you for all your help and hope someday i may return the favor.... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
